Welcome to my website!
I am an Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering at Clemson University.
My research interests lie at the intersection of industrial data science and nonlinear optimization, with a focus on addressing challenges in the energy, manufacturing, and biomedical/health sectors. Specifically, I have developed new digital twin calibration methodologies for energy systems, such as building energy and wind power systems, and advanced industrial data science methods for hybrid and smart manufacturing.
Previously, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Information and Industrial Engineering from Yonsei University, after which I worked as a credit data analyst at NICE Credit Bureau, where I helped launch a new business leveraging large-scale real estate data in Korea. Then I joined academia through a master’s program in Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, where I worked on data analytics projects to develop innovative quality fault diagnostic methods for multi-stage manufacturing systems. Subsequently, I moved to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where I received my master’s degree in Statistics and my Ph.D. in Industrial and Operations Engineering. There, I conducted research on developing digital twin calibration methodologies for energy systems and completed my dissertation titled Digital Twin Calibration with Operational Data.
Throughout my academic journey, I have had the privilege of being selected as the Edward P. Fitts, Seth Bonder, and IES Graduate Fellow.
For prospective students: we are seeking highly motivated PhD/MS/undergraduate students with strong quantitative skills (e.g., statistics, applied mathematics) to work on cutting-edge research projects at the intersection of data science, applied statistics, AI, and nonlinear optimization, with applications to complex engineering systems. If you are interested in joining our lab, please send your CV, transcripts, and a brief research statement to cjeong [at] clemson.edu with the subject line: “Prospective PhD/MS/Undergrad: Your Name” (I apologize in advance for not replying to all emails).
